Flexible spending accounts allow you to set aside pre-tax contributions that you can use to reimburse yourself for eligible health care and dependent care expenses. The money you contribute to an FSA is deducted from your paychecks before most taxes are calculated, so you save money.

WFM offers three types of FSAs: a Health Care FSA, an HSA-Compatible FSA, and a Dependent Care FSA.

You are eligible to participate in the Health Care FSA as long as you’re not also participating in a Health Savings Account (HSA). (IRS rules do not allow participation in both a Health Care FSA and an HSA during the same calendar year.)

If you are enrolled in an HSA—either at WFM or elsewhere—you can participate in WFM’s HSA-Compatible FSA, which allows you to reimburse yourself eligible dental and vision expenses.

All Team Members are eligible to enroll in the Dependent Care FSA.

You can use the Dependent Care FSA to reimburse yourself for expenses like daycare, summer day camps, in-home babysitting, and adult day care that you rely on so that you and/or your spouse or domestic partner can work.

Expenses must be for children under age 13 and/or for an adult who is incapable of self-care and lives in your home for more than half the year.

IRS rules do not allow participation in both a Health Care FSA and an HSA during the same calendar year. However, if you enroll in an HSA, you can participate in Whole Foods Market’s HSA-Compatible FSA, which allows you to reimburse yourself for eligible dental and vision expenses.

If you enroll in the Personal Wellness Account, you can also participate in a Health Care FSA.

No. These accounts are completely separate and due to IRS rules, you cannot transfer funds between them.

No. You must use all of the money you’ve contributed to a FSA by December 31 or you will lose it. However, you will have up until March 31 of the following year to file claims for expenses you incurred in the prior year through December 31.
